Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about fit, capabilities, engagements, and what it’s like to work together.

What does Paul Nederhoed Consulting do?

Paul Nederhoed Consulting, LLC is a Greater Boston consulting and development practice that helps organizations solve operational and commercial challenges with practical systems, tools, and hands-on expertise. Paul creates automations, websites, web applications, dashboards, and custom tools that make operations, reporting, prospecting, sales, and decision-making more efficient. He also consults in person or remotely on R&D and in vivo operations, EH&S and biosafety, vivarium, laboratory, and building design, process improvement, business development, marketing, and sales. His approach draws on 25+ years of in vivo research and operations leadership, Director-level experience, and board experience to connect strategy with practical execution.

Does Paul only work with life science organizations?

No. Life science, in vivo research, R&D operations, EH&S, and laboratory and facility design are core areas, but Paul also works with established businesses, non-profits, entrepreneurs, start-ups, investors, and professional service firms. The common thread is practical support for an operational, technical, creative, or growth challenge.

Can Paul build a custom automation, dashboard, website, or web application for my organization?

Yes. Paul develops practical digital tools around real business workflows, including internal dashboards, websites, web applications, reporting and prospecting tools, document-generation workflows, and AI-assisted automations. Each solution is scoped to remove friction, improve visibility, standardize work, or support growth — not to add technology for its own sake.

Will I receive recommendations, or can Paul also implement the work?

Both. Paul can deliver an assessment, strategy, or roadmap and then stay involved to build and launch the solution. Depending on the engagement, deliverables may include workflows, SOPs, guidelines, branded templates, websites, web applications, dashboards, automations, marketing campaigns, competitive intelligence, photography, and custom imagery.

Can Paul help if our project is not fully defined yet?

Yes. Many engagements begin by clarifying the current workflow, pain points, constraints, stakeholders, and desired outcome. Paul can turn an early idea or persistent problem into clear priorities, practical options, a workable scope, defined deliverables, and next steps before implementation begins.

What is a vivarium consultant, and when should I hire one?

A vivarium consultant advises on the design, operations, and compliance of animal research facilities — covering biosecurity, cagewash and material flow, containment, animal support spaces, and scalability. Engage one early in a lab or translational research building project to avoid costly design rework and align with IACUC, AAALAC, and biosafety requirements.

How does Paul use AI and automation, and does every project require AI?

AI is used where it provides clear value, such as improving documentation, reporting, research, decision support, prospecting, or repetitive workflows. Not every project needs AI. Paul starts with the business or operational need and recommends the simplest maintainable approach that fits the organization's risk, privacy, and compliance requirements.

Can Paul work with our existing team, consultants, architects, or vendors?

Yes. Paul can serve as an advisor, project lead, hands-on builder, or subject-matter expert within a broader team. He collaborates with leadership, operations, scientific, EH&S, facilities, marketing, sales, design and engineering, and technical partners to close gaps and keep decisions grounded in practical implementation.

Where is Paul based, and do you work remotely?

Paul is based in Greater Boston, Massachusetts, and works with clients on-site and remotely across the United States. On-site support is useful for workshops, facility assessments, design meetings, and key project milestones; planning, analysis, documentation, automation, web development, and ongoing advisory work can often be delivered remotely.

What types of consulting engagements are available?

Depending on the need, an engagement may be a focused consultation or assessment, a defined project with specific deliverables, or ongoing advisory and implementation support. After an introductory conversation, Paul recommends a practical scope, schedule, and working cadence aligned with the objectives and available resources.

What is expert network consulting?

Paul provides on-demand expertise to investors and companies through the expert networks Third Bridge and Guidepoint (2014–present), covering biotech operations, research facilities, and compliance.
